Frequently Asked Questions

What To Expect

Choosing a personal trainer is a big decision. You want to know what you're getting into, what to expect, and whether it's the right fit for you. I've answered some of the questions I hear most often below. If there's something I haven't covered, just ask. No bullshit, no pressure. Just straight answers.

Absolutely not. You don't get in shape before you start training. You start training to get in shape. Whether you're starting from scratch, returning after a long break, or looking to take your fitness to the next level, we'll meet you where you are and build from there. The goal isn't to keep up with somebody else. It's to get better than you were yesterday.

Yes. But we're going to focus on your health, not just the number on the scale. We'll build a training program around your goals, work on strength and conditioning, and address the nutrition habits that support your progress. As you become more consistent, your body will change. There are no magic formulas or overnight transformations here. You bring the goal. I'll help you figure out the way there.

That depends on where you're starting, what you're working toward, and how consistently you follow the plan. You may notice improvements in strength, energy, endurance, and how you feel before you see significant physical changes. We'll track your progress, evaluate what's working, and make adjustments along the way. I'm not coaching you for 12 weeks. I'm coaching you for the next 30 years of your life.

That depends on your goals, experience, schedule, and budget. Some people benefit from training once a week, while others make better progress with two or three sessions. We'll figure out what makes sense for you and build a plan you can realistically maintain. Remember, consistency beats perfection. The best plan isn't the most aggressive one you can survive for a month. It's the one you can stick with.

You're getting more than somebody counting your reps. Your training is built around your goals, abilities, and progress. Depending on your package, that includes individualized workouts, nutrition and macro guidance, accountability, progress tracking, monthly progress reports, and adjustments as you improve. I pay attention to what you're doing, how you're responding, and what needs to change. You're not getting a cookie-cutter program and being left to figure it out yourself.

You have options. For in-person training, you can train at my fitness center in Stuart, FL, with 24/7 access included in your package, or have me come to your community fitness center. Either way, there are no additional travel charges. I offer individual training, training with a friend, and small-group training for up to five people. If in-person training doesn't fit your schedule or circumstances, virtual training is also available.

Virtual training gives you individualized coaching without requiring us to be in the same room. We meet by video for a 60-minute training session, review your technique, work through your program, and discuss your performance and progress. I'll adjust your training based on what I see and how you're responding, then establish goals for the week ahead. You'll need a reliable internet connection, a device with a camera and microphone, and access to the equipment required for your program. This isn't a generic workout app or a library of exercise videos. You're working directly with me.

You don't need to survive on chicken and broccoli, and I'm not going to pretend there's one perfect diet for everybody. I provide nutrition guidance and macro support to help you understand how your eating habits affect your goals. We'll look at practical changes you can make and maintain, rather than chasing the latest diet trend. The objective is to build habits that support your health and training for the long term, not to follow a restrictive plan you can't wait to quit.

The cost depends on the type of training you choose and how frequently you train. Alan Sott Fitness offers individual sessions, training with a friend, small-group training, and virtual coaching, with options designed around different needs and budgets. Your package includes more than the time we spend working out together: it also supports your progress between sessions through coaching, tracking, and accountability. Check the Training Options and Pricing section for current package rates and details.

You can start with my introductory session, a one-time, 45-minute opportunity to see where you are and what we can work toward together. We'll review basic body measurements, estimate your body-fat percentage, discuss your goals, and complete a short workout to assess your current abilities. The session costs $25. It's available once per new client and cannot be repeated. There's no need to commit to ongoing training before you've had the chance to experience my approach.
